Below we summarize the notable changes caused by specific updates. See also the internal benchmark results which isolate impacts from specific updates.
This fix addressed the high O3 bias over the poles and decreased O3 by up to 10 ppb at high latitudes as shown in this plot. Global mean OH concentrations changed by -0.49% with this fix. This bug was identified when examining large differences in GEOS-Chem Classic vs GCHP that were introduced in 13.4.0. The decreases in O3 seen in GEOS-Chem Classic in this version largely correct the increases in O3 in GEOS-Chem Classic observed in 13.4.0
This fix removed double counting of MOH dry deposition over the oceans and therefore caused a slight increase in MOH concentrations over the oceans. See this plot. Global mean OH concentrations changed by -0.02% with this fix.
This update increases pFe concentrations and emissions totals. In particular, entries for pFe were added for the AEIC2019, which are on by default in benchmark simulations causing the following increase in total pFe emissions: pFe Total : 0.006824 0.006851 0.000028 0.405 NOTE: POG1 and POG2 are only utilized in complex SOA with SVPOA simulations so changing those species does not impact the benchmark output.
This fix causes small differences in AOD for OCPI, SO4, ISOP, and stratospheric liquid aerosol as shown in these plots. Other differences in AOD between 13.4.0 and 14.0.0 are primarily caused by the larger changes from the GEOS-Chem Classic pressure fixer bug. 5.
