[http://acmg.seas.harvard.edu/publications/Leibensperger2011_Part1_submitted.pdf Leibensperger et al. (2011)] implemented historical emission inventories of SO2, NOx, BC, and POA in order to simulate the evolution aerosol concentrations between 1950 and 2000 in the US. Global emissions are available from 1850 for BC/POA and 1890 for SO2/NOx. Emissions are from the following sources:

* SO2/NOx between 1890-1990 - EDGAR HYDE [http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2001/2000GB001265.shtml (van Aardenne et al., 2001)]
* SO2/NOx 2000 - EDGAR 3.2 FT (Olivier and Berdowski, 2001: Global emissions sources and sinks in "The Climate System")
* BC/POA between 1850-2000 - [http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2007/2006GB002840.shtml Bond et al. 2007]

Future emissions of SO2, NOx, BC, and POA (2010 to 2050) were calculated by applying regional scale factors to emissions for year 2000. Scale factors follow the IPCC A1B scenario as implemented by  [http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2004/2004JD004902.shtml Streets et al. (2004)].
