Dr. Patrick C. Campbell is an Assistant Research Professor at the Cooperative Institute for Satellite Earth System Studies, George Mason University, and NOAA Air Resources Laboratory (ARL) Affiliate. He received his M.S. in Atmospheric Science in 2006 at the University of Massachusetts, worked in private industry as an air quality meteorologist until 2008, and then completed his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science at the University of Wyoming in 2013. After graduating, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Scholar at North Carolina State University until 2016, and subsequently received a fellowship award from the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council to pursue a research associate position at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. His main focus of research is development, application, and evaluation of coupled air quality models on global to regional scales, which includes research on emissions, land surface processes, air-surface exchange, and atmospheric deposition in chemical transport models. He is currently working at NOAA ARL, where he will be heading up emission projects and research and development to support the U.S. National Weather Service’s National Air Quality Forecasting Capability (NAQFC). His work will also include research on advanced coupling of the Community Multi-Scale Air Quality model with next-generation NOAA operational forecast models. His research interests include coupling different earth system and chemical models to better quantify changes in coupled meteorological, land, and air quality processes in the face of climate change.
