NOTE: Webpage still under development. The table and other information are being used as a template!

On this page we provide a user-friendly look-up table of satellite specifications for GEOS-Chem users interested in assessing the model against space-based observations.

General Satellite and Instrument Information

If you have used or are using space-based observations we invite you to add information to the table below.

Instrument Satellite Launch Date Orbit Equator Crossing Time Footprint Swath Width Global Coverage
Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) ERS-2 April 1995 sun-synchronous 10h30 LT 320x40 km2 960 km < 3 days

Satellite-Observed Species Information

If you have used GEOS-Chem results in a model intercomparison study, we invite you to add your information to the table below.

POLARCAT Model Intercomparison Gas phase species, including O3, CO, NO, NO2, PAN, HNO3, NOy, H2O, C2H6, C3H8, C2H2, acetone, acetaldehyde and OH Jingqiu Mao (NOAA/GFDL) 2008 Phase-1 is done. Now phase-2 is in progress. N/A Simulations include a 1-year spin-up period (2007) and a full 12-month integration (Jan-Dec 2008) which will be used for comparison with long-term monthly-mean surface observations and satellite fields for 2008.
  • Anthropogenic and ship emissions - David Streets global emission dataset for 2008 (STREETS);
  • Biomass burning emissions: FINNv1 (Fire INventory from NCAR, version 1, from Christine Wiedinmyer) daily biomass burning emissions for 2008, based on MODIS fire counts.
