On this page we provide information about some of the other libraries that are used by both GEOS-Chem "Classic" and GCHP. Several of these libraries are not used directly, but operate more or less "under-the-hood".

The HDF5 library and file format

HDF5 is a self-describing file format similar to netCDF. As with netCDF, software programs need the HDF5 library to be installed to enable reading from or writing to HDF5 files.

While HDF5 is not used directly by GEOS-Chem, the netCDF library depends on HDF5 having been installed first. HDF5 will typically be installed on your system as part of the netCDF installation process (i.e., when you use Spack to install netCDF, or when your IT staff installs netCDF for you).

For more information on HDF5, see: https://www.hdfgroup.org/solutions/hdf5/

Libraries used by GCHP

If you are using GCHP (or plan to use GCHP), then please see the Software Requirements section of the GCHP manual for information about additional libraries that you will need.
