List of GCAP met fields
NOTE: GCAP in the standard GEOS-Chem is mostly obsolete. Most simulations using the GCAP meteorology are now performed with the ICECAP model. This is a separate code base in which the GISS Model E dynamics have been integrated into GEOS-Chem.
Here is a description of the GCAP met fields. These are saved out from the GISS-GCM and can be used to drive GEOS-Chem simulations for the GCAP project.
A-3 Fields
- These are 3-hr time-averaged fields.
- Data times: 1:30, 4:30, 7:30, ..., 22:30 GMT
- All A-3 fields are 2-dimensional (lon,lat)
GCAP Field | Description | Units |
---|---|---|
ALBEDO | 2-D surface albedo | unitless (=0 over dark areas) |
PREACC | 2-D total precipitation | mm/day |
PRECON | 2-D convective precipitation | mm H2O/day |
TS | 2-D surface temperature | K |
MOLENGTH | 2-D Monin-Obukhov length | m |
USTAR | 2-D friction velocity | m/s |
PBL | 2-D boundary layer height | m |
RADSWG | 2-D incident radiation at ground | W/m2 |
SNICE | 2-D fraction of box covered with snow or land or ocean ice | unitless |
OICE | 2-D ocean or lake ice fraction | unitless |
USS | 2-D U-wind @ 10m above ground | m/s |
VSS | 2-D V-wind @ 10m above ground | m/s |
SOIL | 2-D volumetric water content | m3/m3 |
SNOWD | 2-D snow depth | mm |
PARDIR | 2-D direct photosynthetically active radiation | W/m2 |
PARDIF | 2-D diffusive photosynthetically active radiation | W/m2 |
NOTE: The albedo is calculated only when sunlight is shining. During a dark timestep, the program "remembers" the albedo from the previous timestep. The problem is that some places are in continuous night.
